We specialize in poultry and the sale of their offspring. Our main interest is improvement of heritage and cold tolerant breeds with unique plumage or egg laying abilities. All pictures are actual parent stock.
Cuckoo marans lay terracotta to milk chocolate colored eggs, on average 4 or 5 days a week. Their disposition is extremely friendly and they are well suited to being confined during the cold winters, as well as foraging free range in the summer. They also grow to a nice table size of 8 plus pound hens and 10 plus pound roosters. I have both clean and feathered leg cuckoo marans, so not all may have leg feathering
The blue silver marans are smaller than my other breeds of marans at 6-7 pound hens and around 8-9 pound roosters. They lay the darkest of all my marans and also lay 4-5 days out of the week year round. They are happy in confinement or free ranging. The blue silver do have leg feathering. Note: not all will have the silver, as some of my hens are pure blue.
The black silver marans are smaller than my other breeds of marans at 6-7 pound hens and around 8-9 pound roosters. They lay the darkest of all my marans and also lay 4-5 days out of the week year round. They are happy in confinement or free ranging. The black silver do have leg feathering,. Note: not all will have the silver, as some of my hens are pure black.
Russian orloff are a threatened breed that is calm and enjoys foraging in the yard, making them thriftier on food than other breeds. They handle the cold winters extremely well. The roosters weigh 8-9 pounds and the hens weigh around 6-7 pounds, making them also good table birds. The hens lay 4 light medium brown eggs on average a week. Our variety is spangled, which is a red base with different color specks sprinkled throughout. All of our birds have fluffy muffs and nice tight combs.
We crossed our prize winning Barnevelder line with ameraucana. The end result of two years of meticulous culling is a double laced, blue legged, rose combed, massively bearded and muffed, olive egg layer. The barnevelder genes substantially increased the size of the birds to around 9 pound roosters and 7 pound hens. The rose comb is also more preferred for our cold climate, so you don't have to worry about them freezing off. The hens lay an olive egg around 5 days a week. The olive carton of eggs has two white campine eggs in it to show the color better.
Barnevelders are a critically endangered, heritage breed that lays large coppery or rose colored eggs and are tasty on the table. Gorgeous black double lacing over mahogany on their feathers. They prefer to hang in or near their coop, rather than free range. Very docile temperament. They are a stocky breed that does well with the cold Michigan winters and lays throughout.
We offer started pullets from late summer through mid-winter, but we are currently sold out of coop ready pullets for winter 2022/ 2023. We will resume offering started pullets again in July 2023. There is a $1 fee per bird for every two weeks the birds have been grown. Cockerels of various ages are always available.
Named after Cayuga Lake in New York, cayuga ducks are a very popular breed coveted for both their beauty and their gray/black eggs. Their black feathers shimmer green in the sunlight. They are a heavy breed, so they winter over well, with just a coop for the subzero nights.
Runners are an egg laying breed, that coexist well with other types of fowl, due to their smaller stature and their lack of need for a large water source. However, they do need more coop space during winter, because they do stay inside most of the time when the temps are below 20 or so.
Heritage breed of turkey that is shades of slate grey to blue. Excellent forager, if allowed to free range. Females are 15-20 pounds and males 20-30 pounds at maturity.
Stunning birds, but they do need a very secure, large flight pen in order to be happy. They only need a covered branch out of direct wind to withstand our winters.
Chicks $20
